Laminate Flooring Construction

Laminate flooring has four layers: a wear layer, a design layer, an inner core layer and a backing layer. The wear layer protects the floor from stains and fading. Beneath that, the design layer is literally a photographic image of wood, stone or other natural visual. For structural strength, the inner core layer's plastic resin keeps the laminate stable and flat. The backing creates a moisture barrier that protects the floor from warping. It's this layered construction that makes laminate floors so remarkably durable.

Laminate Flooring Style

Laminate flooring offers a wide selection of designs that offer the look and feel of beautiful hardwood, ceramic tile, and slate. Laminate is a composite designed to endure more that average wear and tear. A direct pressure manufacturing process fuses four layers into one extremely hard surface. Having arrived from Europe over a decade ago, laminate flooring was inspired by countertop materials, only it's at least 20 times stronger. With a direct pressure laminate surface it is virtually impossible for spills and scuffs to leave a mark. The clear surface layer protects the pattern underneath and is highly resistant to cigarette burns and scratches from pets. Maintenance is quick and easy using a damp cloth or vacuum and most household cleaning chemicals will not harm a laminate floor. The surface is hygienic and is excellent for people suffering from allergies.

Laminate Flooring Design - Look

It's all there: the subtle color variations, the distinctive grain, the authentic texture. Laminate captures the beauty and design of the finest natural hardwood, ceramic, and stone at a fraction of the price.

Laminate Flooring Color

Available in an exciting palette of colors, you are guaranteed to find a laminate floor in the color you're looking for.

Laminate Flooring Width

Width

Laminate flooring comes in a wide variety of sizes, depending on the look you choose. Most wood look planks are 4 inches or wider while ceramic tile looks range between 12 and 15 inches. Keep in mind that the width of individual boards can have a dramatic influence on the look of a floor. Wide widths can complement a large room, but can sometimes overwhelm a small area. Select the look that harmonizes with the style and architecture of your home.

Laminate Flooring Installation Considerations

Installation Considerations

Laminate can install over almost any existing floor type, provided it is smooth, flat and dry. If you are thinking about a DIY laminate installation, read the installation instructions carefully before beginning.
